PrimeWhip Canada — cream chargers, sizes and current status

The PrimeWhip range, which size does what, the Health Canada recall status, and what professional kitchens are buying instead.

PrimeWhip is a nitrous oxide cream charger brand sold in Canada in 320 g, 640 g, 2000 g and 3000 g cylinders, plus 8 g cartridges. This page covers the range, the sizes, what fits what, and the brand’s current regulatory status in Canada — which you should read before you buy anything PrimeWhip from anyone.

Status check first. Health Canada recalled a list of PrimeWhip products in May 2026 under RA-82056, a Type I recall. Ten named flavours are covered. Read exactly which products are affected and what to do before ordering PrimeWhip anywhere.

What PrimeWhip is

PrimeWhip is a brand of food-grade nitrous oxide (N₂O, food additive E942) sold for charging whipping siphons. Nitrous oxide is what puts the air into whipped cream, espumas and foams: it dissolves into fat under pressure and expands when released, which is why a siphon gives you stable cream in seconds instead of ten minutes with a whisk.

The brand’s range splits into two formats, and the difference matters more than most buyers expect:

Cylinders — 320 g to 3000 g

Large refillable-style cylinders that need a pressure regulator between the tank and the siphon. You charge one siphon after another without stopping to swap cartridges, which is why busy kitchens and bars use them. PrimeWhip’s cylinder sizes are 320 g, 640 g, 2000 g (sold as XL) and 3000 g (XXL).

Cartridges — 8 g

The standard threaded cartridge that screws straight into a whipper with no regulator. One cartridge charges roughly 0.5 L of cream. This is the format most home kitchens and small cafés actually need, and it is the simplest setup to run.

Which size do you need?

Format Regulator needed Suits
8 g cartridges No Home kitchens, small cafés, low volume
320 g Yes A single station, light service
640 g Yes The common working size for a busy kitchen or bar
2000 g (XL) Yes High volume, multi-station, or buying down the per-gram cost
3000 g (XXL) Yes Highest volume sites and catering operations

If you are moving up from cartridges for the first time, you need a regulator as well as the cylinder — they are not interchangeable, and a cylinder will not thread into a standard whipper.

What we stock, and what we do not

We are straight about this because the recall makes it unavoidable.

We do not sell the PrimeWhip products named in RA-82056. That covers the ten flavours listed on the recall — Saturn, Mexican Mango, Mint, Sweet Lemonade, Lemonade, Watermelon, Watermelon Mint, Blueberry Blast, Blueberry and Strawberry Vanilla — across every cylinder size. If another retailer is still selling them to you, check the recall notice yourself.

We do stock two PrimeWhip items that are not named on that list: the 8 g Pluto 50-pack and the PrimeWhip nozzle dispenser. Neither appears among the recalled products. That is a statement about the recall’s published list, not an approval — the detail, including one unresolved discrepancy in the Pluto pack’s stock code, is set out on the recall page.

Replacing a PrimeWhip cylinder, size for size

The three sizes people ask for most are 640 g, 2 kg and 3 kg. Here is what we actually stock against each, and where we do not.

Replacing a PrimeWhip 640 g

All five Prime Whip 640 g variants are named on the recall. These are not:

Cylinder From Note
Top Whip 640 g $41.99 Food-grade N₂O
Smartwhip 640 g $60.99 Aluminium — lighter across a long shift

Replacing a PrimeWhip 2 kg (XL)

All ten Prime Whip 2000 g variants are on the recall. Direct replacements:

Tank From Note
Cream Deluxe 2 kg Maxxi $129.99 Supplied with a nozzle

Pallet quantities are listed too, and a Cream Deluxe 666 g at $56.99 sits between a 640 g and a 2 kg if a full tank is more than you need.

Replacing a PrimeWhip 3 kg (XXL)

We do not currently stock a 3 kg cylinder. All six Prime Whip 3000 g variants are on the recall, and we have not yet found a 3 kg equivalent from a brand that is not. The closest in practice is the Cream Deluxe 2 kg at ≈250 charges, taken in quantity.

If 3 kg is specifically what your site runs on, message us on WhatsApp — use the chat button on any page. Tell us the volume you get through and we will tell you honestly whether we can source it rather than talk you into a size that does not suit you.

Other brands we carry

These brands appear on neither RA-82056 nor the earlier RA-81742 recall, as of our last check on 30 October 2026. Re-check the recall database before relying on any brand — the list has grown before.

  • Smartwhip — aluminium 640 g cylinders. The closest like-for-like replacement for a PrimeWhip 640 g, and lighter to handle across a long shift.
  • Mosa — standard 8 g cartridges by the case. The direct alternative if you were buying PrimeWhip’s Pluto cartridges.
  • FastGas — 640 g and 670 g cylinders, and 2 kg pallet quantities.
  • Cream Deluxe — 666 g and 2 kg tanks.
  • iSi and Hendi — whipping siphons and dispensers, if you are replacing the hardware too.

Buying in case and pallet quantities

Every cylinder on this site is priced by pack size, and the discount is already in the pack price rather than applied at checkout — so the per-unit cost drops as the pack gets bigger. Each product page shows a pack table with the exact per-unit price and saving at every tier. For pallet quantities and scheduled deliveries, send a quote request.

Delivery across Canada

We ship nitrous oxide cylinders across Canada. Transit times and carrier options vary by province and by cylinder size, because pressurised goods have handling restrictions that a parcel of dry goods does not.

For delivery to your specific location, message our support team on WhatsApp — tell us your postal code and the size you want, and we will confirm what can be shipped to you and how long it takes before you order.

Common questions

What is PrimeWhip used for?

PrimeWhip is food-grade nitrous oxide used to charge whipping siphons for whipped cream, foams, espumas and rapid infusions. Nitrous oxide is a permitted food additive in Canada (E942) when sold and used as a propellant for preparing food.

Is PrimeWhip still available in Canada?

The products named in Health Canada recall RA-82056 were recalled in May 2026, and primewhip.ca stopped processing online orders in response. Two PrimeWhip items are not named on that list — the 8 g Pluto cartridge pack and the nozzle dispenser. Our recall page sets out the detail.

What size PrimeWhip cylinder should I buy?

8 g cartridges suit home kitchens and low volume and need no regulator. 640 g is the common working size for a busy kitchen or bar. 2000 g and 3000 g cylinders suit high-volume and multi-station sites, or buying the per-gram cost down. Every cylinder size needs a pressure regulator; cartridges do not.

Do I need a regulator for a PrimeWhip cylinder?

Yes, for every cylinder size from 320 g upwards. A cylinder will not thread directly into a standard whipping siphon. Only the 8 g cartridges screw straight in.

What is the best alternative to PrimeWhip?

For a 640 g cylinder, Smartwhip is the closest like-for-like and uses aluminium rather than steel, so it is lighter to handle. For 8 g cartridges, Mosa is the direct equivalent by the case. Neither brand appears on the 2026 Health Canada recall lists, though you should re-check the database before relying on that.

Can you deliver to my location?

We ship across Canada, but transit times and carrier options vary by province and cylinder size because pressurised goods carry handling restrictions. Message our support team on WhatsApp with your postal code and the size you need, and we will confirm before you order.
